At 6:42 this morning, WFF&R was dispatched to Trail King on 3rd Ave NW for a water flow alarm. Upon arrival, crews found windows blown out along the south part of the building and fire showing from the roof. It appeared that under the weight of our recent snow falls, a section of the roof collapsed, shearing a gas line in the process and igniting a fire. The first in units (E70 and C4) shut the gas down while the second and third due (E71 ad L76) units setup for operations. The fire was extinguished and the building searched for victims with none found. Overhaul was conducted with no extension noted from the site of the fire. Xcel Energy and Cass County Electric responded to lockout utilities to the building. There were no injuries reported.
West Fargo Police and Public Works also responded to assist with scene control and removing snow along the routes to fire scene as well as the parking lot. A quick response was achieved by staffing the Central Fire Station overnight and this morning due to the storm. WFF&R responded to ten incidents during the storm last night, and another two involving carbon monoxide and natural gas issues this morning.
